Comments Thread For: Gamboa Confident He Will Beat Crawford, Eyes Garcia

Yuriorkis "The Cyclone of Guantanamo" Gamboa (23-0, 16 KOs) is pretty confident about his chances to defeat World Boxing Organization (WBO) lightweight champion Terence Crawford (23-0, 16 KOs) on June 28th at Century Link Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Gamboa is hoping for a showcase win to boost his career forward to other lucrative matches. HBO will televise the fight.

    Meh...

I'm not betting on this one but I think Gamboa is going to be frustrated alot by Crawford, Gamboa is going to need to bring some of his amateur pedigree into this fight to close the distance and not allow himself to be outboxed.

Crawford isn't coming to fight he is coming to stick and move all night long which isn't what Gamboa has looked to do in recent fights of his at all.

Yeah, no. I don't see Gamboa beating Crawford. I was never impressed with Gamboa. If he did win, I'd have to seriously start taking a closer look.

Gamboa hasnt been very active. He takes alot risk and he thinks Crawford will be an easy fight.

Still fighting two divisions higher than he belongs, but it is what it is.

I believe Gamboa is the better fighter here, by a distance. His speed, explosiveness and movement are better than anything Crawford has seen. However, it's harder to put them to use when you're fighting guys who are so much bigger than you. Even with his inactivity, I'm going with Yuri.

Garcia won't fight Gamboa even if he wins, he's already ducked him several times.

Na. Gamboa will get dropped at least once vs Terrence possibly stopped. Terrence will beat both gamboa and Mikey

Isint that how the cards are stacked against Manny and Floyd - dont they usually have the edge in speed / explosiveness / and movement against a much bigger opponent? Isint that what makes them so good? What are you talking about ? In their mind skills pay the bills.. not sure if in your heart you think yuri is the fighter you described, maybe 5 years ago..but crawford is a live dog - who posses alot of the same skill set

The problem I have picking Crawford is just that.
These Cubans have seen guys like Crawford - Bigger, technical guys all the time in the amateurs. They know them inside out.
Is Perez really a million miles apart from Crawford? Not saying he is as good but size, stylistically I don't think hes too far away.

Crawford is a good kid but you can bet your life he hasn't seen anybody with the speed, angles, combination punching, counterpunching ability of the smaller Gamboa. In the gym, in the amateurs or pros he ain't seen a Gamboa.

Is ringrust something to worry about? You have to bare in mind that Crawford is a slow starter! He feels guys out for 2 rounds before he picks it up.
