He can't afford it, true, but a group-buy can. The LA Dodgers were bought by a group, Magic Johnson being included.

Floyd could join in on a group buy and I have a feeling that's what he's thinking, because no way a millionaire with a few hundred million can afford a pro team, not even a low budget team.

This is not new. That's how all start ups do business. Most guys with start ups don't have a dime but they sell a portion of their company to finance operations. By Mayweather starting an investment company, it's just a purpose built vehicle for taking over an existing business where he will be the majority shareholder owning different classes of shares so he can retain ownership and voting rights. It can be done and there are many people trying to get assets in the West especially those from developing countries. This is easy for someone with a profile.

No one is mad, they're just cracking jokes.

He wouldn't be able to buy the team outright, or at least he wouldn't. If anything, he'd buy a small amount of shares in the company.

You do understand that business acquisitions are not just in cash but stock as well right?

Mayweather has never shown any elite business acumen. He still carries around large chunks of cash and makes super square sports bets.

No one with any common sense believes he is smart enough with money to even buy a arena football team, lets not even talk about the 13th most valuable NBA franchise.

He can form an investing company, sink in some bit of his cash so investors know he has committed and they will come on board. He does not have to be a billionaire to do that. The difference with JZee is probably because he was approached. When you are approached you don't have much leverage since it was not your idea but if you started it you choose who to go with at your own terms.

Jay-Z owned less than 0.1% of the Nets. This is a fact and it was first published by the NY Times. He fabricated that he owned more than that, but the reality is that he didn't.

How can you truly say he has never shown any business acumen when he's the most earning sports man in the world? Don't you know his business model has even been discussed in business schools? Mayweather is a shrewd business man and has cuts even in the beers sold at his fights.

Read this well researched article by the New York Times about Mayweather's business model

I never disputed that J Zee owns less than 1%. The reason he owns that little is because this was not his idea. He was approached and made into a front. He didn't mind being used in this case because the investors had all the leverage and if he said no they could get any other person or even go alone. When you start the company it's a different ball game. This is why Zuckerbeg is the majority shareholder of Facebook even though he never invested billions in the company. I already explained how this can be done.
Form company A with the purpose of buying the Clippers. Sell shares to your investors and still retain the majority shares or the class with the majority of voting rights. Make an offer to the clippers including stock as consideration or just buy for cash.

That reply wasn't towards you though.

I know why he has so little. He was more or less used to be honest. They just threw him a crumb to use him (i.e. publicity, ideas, etc).
