How excited would you be if Sergio Martinez had done the same thing to some random opponent Martin Murray beat?

That's what this fight was.

Maybe he is not a fan of Sergio Martinez - and cannot identify with him ethnically or culturally. That's natural bias as long as you're upfront about it.

Sergio is a great Champ but he swims in the Middle (as in Middleweight) where he doesn't have to fight 160lb contenders and can pick out more skilled fighters from a division below (as in Cotto) or a division above. A true, natural Heavyweight is stuck at Heavyweight and that's who he fights.

Wlad should be fighting past-prime fighters (Rahman), prime but still green fighters who are undefeated, seasoned contenders. He should fight the fat guys (Arreola), the tall guys (Fury, Wilder, even Pianeta and Wach) and the short mandatories (Lepei). An all of the above approach and keep all of his titles while racking up more defenses. What he should not be doing is forfeiting one of his belts because the mandatory opponent isn't living up the standards of NSB Boxingscene posters.

You can't blame Wladimir for the fact that the heavyweight division isn't exactly stacked, but that doesn't mean that he's beating game opposition. Today, he was fighting an unskilled opponent who clearly was not in shape so "masterclass" is being way too generous.

I'm excited to see what happens with Deontay Wilder. He still has a lot to prove, but I can tell you one thing: Wladimir is asking for trouble if he's tries to box an athletic 6'7" fighter with his left hand down while breathing through an open mouth.

How he neutralized the distance with his jab scooted right to left while keeping the jab out how he pulled away from shors thru lead right hands was nothing short of needing a book written about it called "the fundamentals of boxing" how he lifts n leans into his right hand n jab are gorgeous. **** what small minded casual fans think. Like I responded to someone else, I'm not criticizing Wlad for fighting this guy. He can't control who is made mandatory.

Just stop acting like Leapai was only so bad because Wlad was so amazing and spectacular. Leapai is horrible. Save the excitement for when Wlad dominates someone that isn't a bum. It won't be long, I'm sure.

I swear to god if Wlad had just gone 5 rounds against the heavy bag these guys would be just as excited about the 'masterclass' he put on and how he neutralised his opponent. in fact I think the heavy bag would have put up more of a fight.

Thanks for demonstrating your second grade-level reading comprehension. I didn't claim that Wilder could beat Wladimir. I stated that, while he still has a lot to prove, I'm excited to see what happens with his development.

Styles make fights. I think Wladimir's style, which works great against shorter, poorly conditioned fighters who don't understand distance, could be problematic against an athletic fighter who is just as tall and long.
