Comments Thread For: Alvarado Says He Overlooked Ruslan, Will Retire Marquez

Losing a fight in boxing comes with harder repercussions in today’s game as most people feel you’re only as good as your last performance. Mike Alvarado and Juan Manuel Marquez are both coming off tough defeats but that’s not stopping them from facing each other in a very interesting and high stakes matchup.

Alvarado has been waiting for a big name fight to come his way and now that he has a chance to face Juan Manuel Marquez in the inaugural fight at the newly refurbished Forum in Inglewood, CA, he feels beating Marquez would be the best redemption for him. [Click Here To Read More]

Didn't Ruslan nearly destroy Bradley before he fought Alvarado? How do you overlook a guy that nearly KO'd (actually did IMO) the champ of the 147 division?

I hate saying that professional boxers are "scared" but if you look at the weigh in video for ruslan/alvarado mike looked very intimidated to me, IMO.

This is such a lie. He's coming up with an excuse for his loss. Nobody in the world was overlooking this guy after the Bradley fight. They both said it was going to be a war and Ruslan came out on top. Nobody gives Alvarado **** for that, he lost to a beast who was coming for his soul that night. Just accept your loss like a man and do better against Marquez.

alvarado did very well in the 2nd fight with rios, he used a lot of movement. he threw that out the window when he fought provodnikov and decided to stay in the pocket and exchange. against marquez, he needs to improve his footwork and head movement. marquez's counter punching ain't that good no more and alvarado has a good chance to wi it on points.

****** Comment: How Do U Overlook Provo After The Beatdown Of Bradley?!!?

Discard Rios as a credible opponent. Neither Rios or Alvarado EVER beat anyone credible; they just beat each other. Stop talking about Rios like he's done something in Boxing. He and Alvarado at best are b/c level fighters; closer to C. If you're Alvarado, u and your training camp have to beat idiots to "overlook" Provo after the schalacking he gave Bradley, a full fledged Welterweight. At the very least Rios and Alvarado aren't smart enough to fight the upper echelon of fighters in their division. The ONLY thing Alvarado has going for him is Marquez is 40, and with drug testing in place, he's a smaller, slower, past his prime, 40 year old counter puncher, who isn't the same juiced up guy who fought Pacquiso last.
