Kovalev has been moved along carefully but Agnew showed up to win. Agnew showed that with limited movement and solid defense Kovalev is vulnerable to being out boxed. With that said, Kovalev showed he can adapt and find ways to win against unconventional fighters.

I'd be interested to see how Kovalev fares against a slick boxer that can take a punch.

      Moved along carefully?

God there is soooooo many posters here who don't follow boxing at all and don't have the slightest clue about what the hell they're talking about

As others have mentioned, he should have went to the body more. Its also tough to look good against a guy who refuses to put his hands down and engage.

That fight didn't prove anything other than what we already knew: Kovalev can punch and is there to be hit, assuming his opponent is willing to throw.

the only real flaw was that he didn't commit to a body assault earlier in the fight

Just a shame he went through a unnecessary headbutt and cut due to that dirty bastard Agnew who lets face knew he had no chance in hell after being knocked down the first time.

I think Kovalev is good for the sport, he gets far too much biased "racist" slack for a Russian fighter from some of our small minded members. He composes himself well and comes across as polite as he can.

His cornermen are black for gods sake!

Remeber Kovalev are hyped to be a KO machine, he had to look impressive and his the one making the fight by being agressive.
He went to fight without a gameplan and no info on agnew other than his a southpaw boxer.
Kovalev took more chanses and tried hard fro hbo to be exiting against a guy who only concentraded on defence. Kovalev is a good counterpuncher but he didn't have the chance to show it against a guy that wouldn't open up.
Kovaleb did good but he should't go after the KO like that always, he's also a good boxer.
Look at kovalev vs sillakh, he's studying sillakh and tries to counter sillakh each time sillakh sets his feet, sillakh has very good handspeed but kovalev is fast in his head and hands

Yeah, and even if what happened didn't, going to the body might have encourage him to drop that guard. Beyond what's been said here, I wouldn't have minded seeing him try uppercut between the guard instead of just smashing the guard. But he had a good outing.

I do think Kovalev, GGG, and Thurman all have a similarity in the form of way too little head movement and a propensity to go straight back. They all have big KO power as well, but that's going to bite each of them at some point.

Thought he looked good. Was patient, listened to his trainer and actually paced himself. JDJ had a good plan and Kovalev followed it.

JDJ said he's training Kovalev to go to the body more. We should expect to see more of it later. Kovalev has a very bright future. His power is like Tyson's in his era. We haven't had a puncher this big in ages.
