Comments Thread For: Marquez on Why He Didn't Choose Provodnikov Bout

Juan Manuel Marquez will return to the ring in 2014 against former WBO Junior Welterweight champion Mike Alvarado as they will serve as the inaugural boxing fight to take place at the newly renovated Forum in Inglewood, CA. It’s the same building where Marquez started his career as he fought a total of 12 times during 1995 through 1999.

Much like Marquez, Alvarado is coming off a loss as he was defeated by Ruslan Provodnikov last October in his hometown of Denver, CO. Many fans have voiced that they would’ve wanted Marquez to face Provodnikov instead of Alvarado given the fact that Provodnikov was the victor and holds a world title.

    Well

I guess we know what's next Marquez vs Pac or Bradley vs Marquez. Even if Marquez loses to Alvarado, he will get a chance. There is more money to be made in Marquez.

Probably so. It also probably wouldn't matter if he lost to Alvarado or Provo at 140. But who's to say that Provo wouldn't fight Marquez above 140. Just because he has a belt at 140 doesn't mean he can't fight at 147. Especially if he wins and gets a chance to fight the Bradley/Pac winner (that would be 2 bigger paydays than anything else he'll get at 140)

Again, sugarcoating it and he really should not. Nothing to be ashamed about.

Here's what he should say: "It's simple. I am not trying to unnecesarily put myself in a dangerous fight right before a title shot bout. It would be ****** for me to take on a monster like Provodnikov and then head towards a fight with Pacquiao or Bradley. And what are you guys complaining about? I could have easily called Likar Ramos back and made the tune up more obvious but I still chose a tough fighter in Alvarado. And what about my feelings?"

Marquez, B-Hop and Sergio get a pass for ducks in my book. They've done enough, been in many great wars.

To fight Provo and Kovalev is near-suicide.

While it's a clear duck of a guy that seems he would give Marquez all he can handle, Marquez has fought the best. Heck even fought Manny 4 times and moved up for Mayweather. He deserves to finish his career the way he wants to even if it's annoying.

In other words I need a good tune up fight before a fight with Manny Pacquiao or Timothy Bradley and Alvarado is a good tune up fight. While Provodnikov is an actual fight.

I respect it. It's not as if he is calling out say Carlos Molina for a fight at 140.
