    Paulie Malignaggi Appreciation Thread

I remember watching him on friday night fights as a prospect. At the time, Kostya Tyszu was the champion and fighters like Micky Ward, Gatti, Urango, Mitchell and Hatton roamed. I didnt think he had a snow balls chance in hell to win a title at 140, let alone one at 147 to boot.

What I did like about Paulie was his confidence and he made the most out of what God gave him. He had good speed but not blazing, good defense but not impregnable and he couldnt break an egg. The jury was out if he was all style and no substance

I always rooted for him but was never sure how far I thought he'd go. After the loss to Cotto, he earned my respect as not just being a loud mouth soft puncher, but a fighter. I was so upset when he got robbed against Juan Diaz but he won the rematch.

Im pulling for Paulie to beat Porter. My mind says Porter, my heart is with Paulie.

Paul is the man. Any grown up that brings a knife to a gun fight and doesn't give a damn deserves kudos. Paul does it every time.

It's hard to say, but I will be pulling for him. It's amazing to think that two years ago at this time Paul was a complete afterthought. He had a good but easily forgettable career. Now, in 2014 he's a two weight world champ, and has an unreal job announcing on Showtime and Fox Sports 1 that he does a great job at, and will most likely be able to hold on to for quite sometime. Like Al Berstein, Paul can potentially get in to the hall of fame as an announcer. Paul was always a guy that believed in himself, as corny as it sounds, it all kind of came together for him.

Things definitely looked up for Paul, now if he can only get his hair thing straightened out.

Paulie is the man. Just don't talk about his side piece.

Pauli definitely has the heart of a champion that's unquestionable. Who knows how his career would of been if he had healthy hands.

i def appreciate paulie as fighter but really appreciate his talents a commentator. he does an incredible job, very intelligent nd even speaks spanish, wayyy better than garcia, "grashias" lol

he beat broner 115-113, i was there at barclay, crowd thought so too

he one of those fighter you say to yourself, "imagine if he had some power" kinda like herrera, imagine if he had some power last saturday vs garcia

none the less, for a little white boy without much muscle definition, tells you being smart in whatever field your in. no matter what other attributes you lack there of.. it can carry you along way

I always thought with his ring IQ and toughness...a lil bit more speed/elusiveness and power he would be a p4p type fighter.

Paul's speed is top notch IMO. Not sure why any one says otherwise. Only fighter he fought that beat him to the punch consistently was Khan.

Anything else you wish to add to make him into something other than a mediocre boxer? Perhaps the Alexis Arguello's right cross? Larry Holmes' jab? Wilfred Benitez's anticipation?
