The Championships Committee of the World Boxing Association announced that Martin Murray does not hold the Middleweight interim title of the organization anymore.

The decision was made according to the regulation because Murray did not make any defense since he won the title.

In addition, the Committee decided to withdraw Murray from the first challenger position of the Division, as stated in the regulation known by both, the Boxer and his working group. .

The purpose of the WBA interim belt it is yes but they have 4 champions per division with their Interim, Regular, Super and unified champions so they don't have any credibility whatsoever and is just a sneak through the back door paper title if you stump up some cash. The WBC and WBO interim belts are actually used when a long time or respected champion can not defend his belt at that specific time due to a problem to give the number 1 contender a guarantee. For example when Floyd Mayweather was having problems with the police getting jailed and could not defend against number 1 contender Robert Guerrero they gave him a WBC interim belt to guarantee the fight . If used rightly i have no problems with Interim belts. But clearly the WBA are abusing the system and so are boxers attempting to be called a champion by any means possible.
