    Comments Thread For: Ward's Trainer: Golovkin-Chavez = Picking and Choosing

    Virgil Hunter, trainer of WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (27-0, 14KOs), is very surprised that WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26KOs) and his team are considering the possibility of moving up in weight to challenge Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at 168-pounds.

    The idea of a Ward-Golovkin showdown has been discussed, numerous times, by both fighters.

    Pure hypocrisy. If Ward was offered a fight with Chavez jr., he would take it in a heartbeat. Wouldn't that also be picking and choosing?

      Virgil Hunter = The New Freddie Roach

      Not in terms of training, but because both guys used to be beloved for being shy non talkative types in the corner, but once they got some fame on them they changed, Roach used to be the type who hated trash talk and was always silent now he talks all this stuff, same thing with Hunter dude has been dropping bombs lately and talking a lot.

      Why did these guys go from being non talkative shy trainers to brash talkative guys? I guess its true what they say fame and praise can change a person

        The hypocrisy is coming from Golovkin's side,because they clearly said that their intentions were to completely exacerbate all of their options at middle before exploring any opportunities at super middle regardless of how lucrative the fight may be.Now going back on that because it's an easier opponent qualifies as a duck too me,especially give that he has middle weight options in Geale and Lee.

            Yes, but all that goes out the window when the cash cow within proximity of your division calls your name.
            Ward would jump at the possibility of a Chavez fight.

              Chavez is GGG's trainer's dream fight. Whose dream fight is Ward?

              GGG team always said they would fight Chavez at any weight.

                well chavez called GGG, guess who's the draw? and GGG is even bigger than ward, lol if chavez called ward, ward is sure ready in a week, will even go 160 just for chavez
                Ward= sour, bitter, whatever

                  I'm not high on Chavez jr. at all, but saying he is an easier opponent than Geale or Lee (whom he KO'd) is laughable.

                    A Ward fight would have been his most lucrative fight to date by far and this was before the Chavez fight even became possible and his team came out with a statement saying that they had no intention to leave their division until they had cleaned it out,so more money or not you can't try to rationalize a duck.
