Why are people defending an obviously inept commission here? We as fans should be behind the fighters no matter what. They constantly get screwed in the wake of commissions, sanctioning bodies, promoters, and networks.

Right or wrong we should be behind him, and especially in a clear cut case of neglect. Fighters have been sent to the hospital by ambulance for much less. Instead he is sent out o the street to get a cab. It's the commission main responsibility to keep fighters safe. They completely failed.

If there was any justice in this world, Gerald McClellan, Magomed Abdusalamov and other incapacitated fighters would receive millions in donations from Don King, Bob Arum, Golden Boy and other promoters. They have so much money, it would be a drop in the ocean to them.

Shouldn't they be held responsible for sending their fighter back out? It was a very competitive and violent fight, but it came to a point where you could see that he was not going to win. The trainers should know their fighter better than anyone else. They work with them all the time. They couldn't see something was wrong with their fighter??? If the family is successful, then every fighter and their family will start trying to sue the boxing commisions. It would be the downfall of the sport.
first I'd like send well wishes to the Abdusalamov family , We love you Mago keep fighting you can still win this one.
It is my opinion that the ref Or trainers can take someresponsibility by not stopping it sooner ,but in their defense as bad as Mago Was taking abuse he was also dishing it out and even in the later rounds where as you stated it appeared Mago would not win . He was fighting back and with any one punch It could have been lights out Perez . What I'm perplexed at is how 4 doctors can look at Mago apearence after the bout and tell him to go to the doctor after you get home in a day or two! I was on my couch and the first thing I said before they gave the decision was HE DOESN'T LOOK GOOD . I think this is the family's main beef and rightfully so . I hope the family gets what they are asking : ( SHAME ON YOU NEW YORK STATE ATHLETIC COMMISION

tax payers will pay for this because 4 doctors had their head up their ass and told Mago go catch a cab and see a doctor in a day or two.had they done their job your tax money would be misused elsewhere . Maybe you didn't get the memo but we love Mago here ! Dont be a D***

The Russian heavyweight Abdusalamov was beaten severely in his Nov. 2 match with Mike Perez at Madison Square Garden, suffering a broken jaw and hand in losing a unanimous decision. Following the match, as he left the arena with just his handlers and went to a nearby hospital, he had emergency surgery to remove a blood clot on his brain and was put in a medically-induced coma where he remained for several weeks.

What has never been clear to me in this fiasco was why wasn't Magomed's medical expenses covered by insurance???
This was a major fight on HBO - how can there not be insurance coverage for the fighters?

I've heard repeated stories about how bad things are over in the US regarding medical treatment, but this is ridiculous...

There was insurance, just not hardly enough to cover such a devastating condition.

The selfish part of me fears this will end boxing in NYC.

While it is easy to second guess the doctors, nysac and the corner, the medical signs of a bleeding brain are very hard to detect and were probably not showing at the time. We can talk about his nose or facial swelling, but that was not what killed him, nor were they symptoms.

The symptoms are pretty specific, which are the headache he got, weakness, cooridination and sensory issues. During the fight, he did not exhibit or may have hidden those symptoms. No symptoms, no diagnosis. Pretty simple.

As for being hit repeatedly, go back and watch the fight. Then watch Bradley v Provodnikov, Gatti v Ward, or any fight with Brandon Rios. I would not call the fight particularly brutal based on watching it alone.
