That's the way you see it. I will never look at it that way. There is a top limit in all weight classes and the fighters are allowed to weigh up to that limit. They can weigh lighter than the limit if they chose to but they should not be forced to weigh even one ounce less than the traditional weight limit for that class if a world title is on the line. Why even bother to have a weight limit if the challenger can lower it at will? What you are saying is that if Cotto wins he could continue on as middleweight champion but make all his title defenses at a top weight of 155 pounds. That's BS. Either the middleweight limit is 160 or it isn't. I say it is and has been for the last 100 years. Robinson, Armstrong, Griffith, Duran and the other greats always fought the heavier champion at the full top weight. Only Leonard used that catchweight bull**** to beat bigger men. I don't recognize any fighter as the champion if they won the title at a catchweight. That goes for Mayweather's win over Canelo and Pacquiao's wins over Cotto and Margarito. According to you a smaller fighter could win the middleweight championship of the world with a weight limit of 155 pounds. That might be fine for you but I will never accept that. If the weight limit is less than 160 then it's not a middleweight title fight in my opinion.

Here's how I think it would go:

Cotto (2014): I think size diff. and physical strength would play a huge role in these matches
      Cotto v. Pavlik (2010): TKO8 Pavlik
Cotto v. Williams (2010): UD Williams
Cotto v. Dzinziruk (2011): MD Dzinziruk
Cotto v. Barker (2011): UD Barker
Cotto v. Macklin (2012): MD Macklin
Cotto v. Chavez Jr. (2012): UD or late TKO (10-12) Chavez
Cotto v. Murray (2013): MD Murray

      Martinez (2014) at 159:
      Martinez v. Foreman (2010): TKO6 Martinez
      Martinez v. Mayorga (2011): TKO7 Martinez
Martinez v. Margarito (2011): TKO8 (doctor stoppage) Martinez
Martinez v. Mayweather (2012): MD/SD/late TKO (10-12) Martinez or Mayweather MD
      Martinez v. Trout (2012): UD/late TKO(10-12) Martinez
      Martinez v. Rodriguez (2013): TKO3 Martinez

      What do you guys think?

I've been seeing some posters say Cotto is leagues ahead of Pavlik, Williams, and Chavez (even at 160); and that he also hits harder than any opponent Sergio has fought so far.

I'd like to see some of those people make their case in this thread?

Trout has sparred with sergio and I guess he told his manager (after the sparring session) "Get me in the ring with this guy"
