    How would losing 1 fight..."expose" a fighter?

    I read a lot on this site about former undefeated fighters(and even very good fighters who few loses) who were "exposed" after they lost a fight.

    Povetkin got "exposed" by Vladdy KO after he lost.No,he lost to the baddest man on the planet. He was an unbeaten gold medalist at HW and is still legit.

    Broner got "exposed" by Maidana. No, he lost to a world class boxer who has great skills and can flat out scrap. Maidana is must see tv,like him or love him.

    Canelo lost to Money May and got "exposed." No, he lost to P4P # 1 fighter on the planet,no shame..come back strong and earn a rematch or other huge fights.

    Those who keep typing this b.s. have not been around boxing and I for one would question if they've ever spent time in a ring. If anyone has ever boxed and says that they have never been hurt or knocked down(been there,done that) in boxing, then they are either a liar or not fighting anyone good.

    Joe Louis is the best HW of all time. He lost fights.
    Ali did. The best fighter of all-time is Sugar Ray Robinson..and he lost fights. I guess they all got "exposed."

    What is up with this trend?

        If u haven't fought anyone of high caliber and then get beat up the first time u step up, then yes u get exposed.. If u have a proven track record like manny, cotto, jmm, then no you aren't exposed,

        Those are examples of a guy not being ready for top level

        Mares has a proven track record, so a loss for him doesn't hurt him as bad, same with donaire,,, we knows these guys are legit,,,

            Those are bad examples but plenty of guys have been truly exposed. Remember Tyron Brunson or whatever his name was the guy who had like 500 first round KOs vs bums and as soon as he stepped up just a little bit he got beat easily. That's being exposed.

              What got Exposed - Broner's hype/skill shortage for a supposed 3 time champ

              You ignore 1 key fact. He hasn't just lost once.

              Summary Broner got exposed

              1. You could claim his Losses to PDL & Quintero exposed him however many people are ignorant of these facts
              2. Lots of people believed in this hype job. Now it's undeniable.
              3. He had been fighting midgets. only when he fought a man his own size did he get his reality check [since he himself believed he own hype] Thought he'd deal with Maidana like Alexander did. but NOPE.


              Maidana gave the ass whooping which exposed him to the world.

              Paulie gave the education of the hype to the world. But still many ignored him.

              What should be next for the kid? get to 140 & slowly rebuild and stay humble. Make sure he looks after them kids of his.

              What will happen? Probaly get knocked out by Maidana in a rematch then end up in jail or depressed then bloat up to 170lb's.

                A number of those fighters you can justify a loss but the problem with Broner is his a$$ and the a$$ of some of his fans couldn't cash the check that his mouth wrote. He was hyped up as the next huge superstar who lived, talked, and walked like he was ultra famous. He was not.

                It is not just about the loss, it was about the buildup and accolades given to him that he had not earned. He clearly lost to Ponce De Leon, really drew with another fighter, beat a guy no one will remember for the 130 pound title, drew with Pauli, really, and still people talked about him being the Floyd of tomorrow. It did not add up, not by a country mile. He was more than exposed, he was ripped wide open. There is no way this guy was going to beat the best 140-147 pounders and yet he was being mentioned in ways that are sheer fantasy than reality. He tried to make himself bigger than Boxing with About Billions and endless other mindless, pinheaded crap! He wasn't even as big as Boxing, let alone bigger.

                Broner might and I mean might win the rematch....but it doesn't change a thing.

                    Quite simply because unbeaten fighters have not been seen to be beatable thus have an aura of invincibility, of possibly being the best.

                    ...Until they lose and usually their defence is in effect for the first time: exposed.
