Going into that fight, he was given a boxers chance. His stoppages are virtually all tkos and he hasnt stopped or decked a top class fighter....until Froch, which puts Froch below Laporte.

Vitali is definitely up there with his iron chin but it wasn't tested so much to say he has the best chin, but McCall is up there more probably as he had lots of intense sparring with prime Tyson and was never dropped, fought young Lewis twice and wasn't even hurt really, and still fighting near age 50 and still never been dropped.

There is NO FOOTAGE and NO REPLAY that shows Hagler hurt or wobbled in that fight. The commentators might say it(but it was probably assumed) and at no point did the ref look like he needed to step in to give a count.
Hearns was shot after one and a bit rounds, his legs completely gone, what on earth makes you think he would have stopped Hagler if it would have gone on????????????? Mugabi was 26-0 all by ko and he put a lot more hurt on an older Hagler but couldnt deck him. Hearns held on for the whole Kinchen fight and was splattered by Barkley, you think Hagler isnt as capable as those two?

A lot of movers do have good chins. The difference with people like Laporte, McCall, Hagler et al, is that they walk through bombs. The forward momentum adds a great deal to the power, and they still keep coming.

One question, because although I watched Laporte fight years ago, I really don't remember his style: Was Juan the kind of fighter to mix it up? I don't recall his name coming up very often, if ever, in this sort of conversation. Has he been overlooked?

Everyone always talks about his chin. But his conditioning... oh man. I loved it.
