Comments Thread For: Peterson: Jean Win Gets Me To Where I Was Pre-Matthysse

Lamont Peterson had been on a decent run prior to his knockout loss last year against Lucas Matthysse. He had knocked out Victor Cayo to earn a shot at then-titleholder Amir Khan, scored a split decision over Amir Khan to pick up a pair of world titles, and then, after an extended layoff, had stopped Kendall Holt in front of a hometown crowd.

And then Matthysse put him down three times and stopped him in three rounds.

That was eight months ago, and Peterson returned this past Saturday with a unanimous decision win over Dierry Jean. [Click Here To Read More]

Not quite, bruh.. It's gonna take something special to erase that KO from the fans' minds. Peterson is truly a solid fighter, but he just looked sooo fragile in that Matthysse fight.

Matthysse forced him to fight that way. If he really thinks that, give Matthysse another shot. This time for the belt. That way Garcia/Matthysse II seems even more appealing.

I think he'll need another solid win to put that Matthysse loss completely under the bridge although he looked fantastic V Jean. Twas a nice fight.

I think that fragility in the Matthysse fight was just a testament to how hard Matthysse really hits. Lucas overwhelmed him after the first knockdown before Peterson decided to go broke and got stopped. I don't think he had much chance in that fight. Like Lamont said, his style played right into Matthysse's hands.

That said, I was very impressed with the way Peterson rolled and took Jean's power punches on the chin. He didn't buckle, didn't panic, didn't go for broke when getting hit by a short, compact puncher and stuck to the gameplan

Not just how hard he hits but how strong he is as well.

            Not really.

Still, he still has a belt so will get a chance to prove himself again. Considering he won the title while cheating with drugs and then got knocked out I don't consider him much of a champ but it is what it is.

I dig this scenario, simply for the fact that I would like to see Danny wreck Matthysse again. HE AIN'T NO KILLA!! lol

I don't buy the whole style bullcrap either. Which style? Peterson came out boxing and realized by the end of the 1st that that wasn't gonna work. He was forced to FIGHT and that didn't work either, obviously.

Peterson starts off slow and seems like he can get caught up in a brawl on the inside when he shouldn't I think that worked in Matthysse's favor he got Peterson to kinda fight on the inside with him before Peterson warmed up and caught him. If Peterson learns not to get caught in an inside fight he maybe able to fight Matthysse and atleast go the difference if not win

I believe he's got the skills to hang in there with Matthysse, but he looked shook from the start.
