He should be fighting at 140 at most, anything over that was a big ask this early in his career. He needed to mature into 147
    You make a good point.

I disagree that Broner wasn't ready to fight at 147lbs. I also disagree that he was out of shape. Anyone paying attention to him would see he's in tremendous shape. While he did come in at 144 (suggesting that he could fight at 140), nothing in that fight showed us that he doesn't belong at 147.

His problem was that he fought a ****** fight. He moved forward and backward (mostly backwards) not side to side. And you don't fight a slugger like Maidana that way, it's going right into his game plan.

If Broner would've fought Matthyse at 140lbs and had the same strategy he would also have lost. Same vs Provokinov. You don't fight guys like this forward and backwards, you move side to side. You also throw more jabs, but really the lack of side to side movement was his downfall. When he started jabbing and moving a little more in the mid rounds, he had really good success.

Another point towards why 147 is a fine weight for Broner is that he still had really good power. It looked clear a few times and Maidana even admitted that he was hurt by Broner at least once in the fight.

Broner needs to make sure he has a trainer that is teaching him how to box tough sluggers. When you're an oversized lightweight fighting sluggers without as much power, you can get away with not moving side to side. Same vs a 147 pound Malignagi, you can afford to stand in front of him and move forwards and backwards. You can't do that vs Maidana, you can't do that vs Matthyse, you can't do that vs Provokinov, you can't really do that vs Rios either. Broner should learn to move side to side, drop down to 140 to fight Matthyse, or rematch Maidana. He can beat either, he has the skillset, the power, the defense... he just needs to learn how to move side to side.

The fact that Broner is recognised by anyone as a "3-division champion" is merely a testament to how much of a joke this sport is. DeMarco was the one top rated fighter he beat for a title and that's it. Malignaggi was a paper champion who lost his last fight and I can't even remember the name of the stiff that he won his paper trinket from at 130.

That's why you and several others are whining in this thread? Because Golovkin expressed an interest in fighting your precious queen? A fight he is willing to move down in weight for?

I think they rushed broner too fast in trying to develop a ppv star,,,

I dont really mind the jump to 147, but they needed him to stay busy and active and learn his craft vs guys like bailey, cintron, collazo, etc... No need to rush him along, his personality was already getting people's attention, so they should have not worried about the world titles in different classes and just focused on making broner a better fighter,, anyone that watched him vs rees, and pauli knew he would have trouble vs a hard hitting welter,,
GBP rushed broner, just like they did canelo.. GBP needs to relax and realize that it takes time to properly develop a ppv that can stay on top, much like how TR has done over the years with their fighters ie cotto,

Golovkin's turning 32 yrs.old this year. I Think Groves, Froch, and Ward beats him when he moves to 168.

Please Stop fighting Light Middleweight. I don't even like Broner, but he and your boy GGG have the same resume. And broner is a 3x division champion at age 24.

Since when is calling out people smaller than you cool? Both Floyd and Broner have moved up in weight to face bigger opposition, while Gennady is supposed to be this destroyer but is calling out people smaller than him. If Adrien is a hype job then Gennady is an even bigger one.

Get your boy in there with Ward and you're going to feel the same damn way. Maidana was just too big and stronger than Broner. Basically, Broner bit off more than he could chew. With that said, no one can ever say Broner was scared to fight anyone.
