Comments Thread For: Espinoza Says Khan is Not a Lock To Get Mayweather

According to Showtime Sports Executive VP Stephen Espinoza, former champion Amir Khan is not necessarily the frontrunner to land Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 3 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Khan has been mentioned as the top frontrunner among the bunch, but Espinoza says there are other candidates being seriously considered - like WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana, who recently scored a major victory with an upset of Adrien Broner.

I remember Mayweather saying Khan couldn't couldn't sell any tickets a couple of years ago. Now he's saying he has a pretty cool fanbase.

    Oh how the shift turns..

Mayweather has a history of doing this
He will continue to fool his fans and they will justify anything he does because they lack intelligence to think any differently.

Since losing to Lamont Peterson, he has lost fans.

like him or hate him but kahn is ALWAYS invovled in great entertaining fights not saying he deserves the fight but he is must see tv. if maidana fights floyd it will be a boring a$$ whooping by floyd, a definite tko/ko.

Maidana deserves the Mayweather shot. Khan doesn't deserve it at all.

Look man, Khan was selling out 20k Arenas as a 20 year old.

If anything, since most of the hype has dwindled, he's doing worse numbers than he used to back in 2009-2011.

Floyd hasn't KO'd anyone since he cheap shotted Ortiz. U really think Maidana is not as tough as Guerrero or Canelo but Khan's chin will stand up? Git tae fook ya daft cunnie.

I think a lot of people are factoring in Maidana's Broner win in a 'what if?' scenario a bit too much...Dont get me wrong I would happily watch the fight, but Maidana would NOT do the same to Floyd.

Plus, does anyone else think that if Floyd was to convincingly beat Maidana one fight removed from his Broner win, it could put a bit of distance between the 'brothers' and it could start off the rivalry that some people believe will one day happen seeing that some of the Mayweather's have already rubbed it in Broner's face that he's no Floyd?
