Comments Thread For: Arum Wants Cotto-Martinez At MetLife Stadium

Now that Miguel Cotto has made it public knowledge that he’ll challenge Sergio Martinez on June 7, Cotto’s handlers can start seriously exploring where to put what will be one of the biggest fights of 2014.

Madison Square Garden is an obvious front-runner because Puerto Rico’s Cotto has regularly drawn large crowds to his home away from home since 2005. Promoter Bob Arum also would “love” to stage the Cotto-Martinez match at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., the site of Super Bowl XLVIII on Feb. 2 and home of the Giants and Jets.

As much as I want to rag on Arum about his "new and innovative" thinking and all his stadium talk. I agree that it's nice to see big fights outside of Las Vegas and held in larger arenas/stadiums.

Pacman fighting at Cowboys stadium created an interesting look and atmosphere. Although sometimes the fans can do all the work (i.e. Cotto/Trinidad in New York, Hatton/Mayweather, etc)

That fight belongs in the Garden. They might get more ppl at the MetLife stadium but with lower priced ticket sells.

This will be at the eve of the parade and I doubt with all the festivities in the city I doubt many are going to venture to New Jersey

I think Cotto could use the support of his NY fanbase at MSG. This is almost that kind of victory that would give him a definite HOF ballot.

Stadiums, especially such massive ones like Metlife suck for fans. You're so far away and cant see a thing.

                Keep it in the Garden

... So not many (from Manhattan?) are going to "venture" through the Lincoln Tunnel directly to the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.?...

                  ... How sad...

unless u are up close, stadiums are awful...I will believe this bout happens when Sergio signs...I really thought Sampson would get him a tune up 1st, but if he signs, they must b certain Sergio can handle Cotto...after all he'll have ht/reach & I doubt he'll b beat to the body as Delvin was...we'll c...
