I think when Pacquiao hits his 50s and 60s and he develops either Parkinson's or dementia, it won't be so funny.

Koncz thinks Mayweather wouldn’t fight Pacquiao even if Arum were out of picture


by Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao’s close personal adviser Michael Koncz doesn’t believe that the reason why Floyd Mayweather Jr. won’t give Pacquiao a fight has anything to do with him being signed with Bob Arum’s Top Rank promotions. Koncz sees it as another excuse by Mayweather just so that he doesn’t have to get in the ring with the Filipino star.

Koncz thinks Mayweather is constantly coming up with new excuses for him not having to get in the ring with Pacquiao. Unfortunately, Pacquiao didn’t agree to the full random blood testing that Mayweather asked for in their initial negotiations in 2010. If Pacquiao had agreed to the testing, he would have gotten the fight with Mayweather. That was Pacquiao’s chance to get a 50-50 percentage cut for a Mayweather fight.


Instead, Arum had Pacquiao fight one of his stable fighters Joshua Clottey and the PPV results were disappointing to say the least. That was a big, big lost opportunity for Arum. He might have thought that the Mayweather fight was always going to be there for Pacquiao, so he put him in with Clottey..

Koncz doesn’t say why Pacquiao refused a $40 million offer by Mayweather for a fight in 2012, which as it turns out, was far more than Pacquiao received for getting knocked clean out by Juan Manuel Marquez in December of 2012. In hindsight, I think Pacquiao should have taken the offer from Mayweather rather than getting knocked out by Marquez for less money, don’t you think?

“I don’t believe Floyd not fighting us has to do with with Bob [Arum],” Koncz said to Dan Rafael of ESPN. “Why did he wait until he exhausted all other excuses before saying he wouldn’t fight Manny if Bob was involved? First he brought up the drug testing [back in 2010]. Then he wanted Manny to sign with him. Then he wanted to pay Manny a flat fee of $40 million for the fight instead of sharing a percentage. And now he can’t fight Manny because Bob would be involved?”

Some boxing fans believe that Pacquiao had his contract extended for 2 additional years with Top Rank in order not to have to worry about fighting Mayweather. With Pacquiao re-signed with Top Rank, he would know that Mayweather would never agree to fight him due to the differences he has with Arum.

Some of the fans wonder why Pacquiao didn’t just wait long enough to get the fight with Mayweather before re-signing with Arum. For example, if Pacquiao become a promotional free agent for a short amount of time after his contract expired with Top Rank at the end of 2014, he could in theory have fought Mayweather and received a payday of $50-60 million for that fight. Pacquiao could have then shown his loyalty to Arum by immediately scampering back to the fold and re-upped for another 2 years to take him to his retirement.

The TRUE reason Mayweather-Pacquiao never happened is and always been because of Top Rank promoter, Bob Arum. I know alot of people dont know this and understandably so, because it never gets mentioned, when Mayweather fought Judah, he was still under the Top Rank banner. That was mayweathers last fight and Bob Arum never fully paid him for the fight, Mayweather THEN vowed to never do business with Bob Arum again and put money inside his pocket. That was around the time Pacquiao was setting the world on fire and talks of a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight began. Why would anyone think Mayweather, fresh off being robbed by Arum himself would be eager to turn around and do buisness with the very man he swore never to make money for, in a 50-50 fight were Bob Arum will get 27% of the money. Bob Arum isnt needed to sell a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, The fight is already sold to the public and both mayweather and Pacquiao can easily cover the promotional tours, marketing and even undercard by showcasing their own fighters from their respective promotional banner. Mayweather understands Arum isnt needed, and despises that the fight results in a win(Mayweather)-win(Pacquiao)-win(Arum) as far as profits go. These two figthers wernt destined to fight eachother, Arum hated Oscar and Mayweather when they left Top Rank because he controlled boxing having the big 3(soon to be 4) PPV draws in his stable, he had to slice the pie with fighters he felt HE built, fans can call eachother names and say "HES SCARED OF PAC LOLS" but this is the real reason and its never changed.

If money was so important to Floyd, the fight would've happened by now. No one else brings an unprecedented purse like Manny does. Not Canelo, not Khan, not ANYONE else. Now it's leave Arum or no fight. **** him! How about get in the ring and fight for your legacy. Theres a reason people always blame Floyd, and say "WHY DOESNT FLOYD FIGHT MANNY, WHY DOESNT HE MAKE THE FIGHT" because he IS in control. I mean, hes the top draw in the sport which leads to the huge difference between the two, Floyd is his own boss, Manny HAS a boss and it happens to be Floyd's nemesis. Floyd Mayweather cant MAKE the fight, ofcourse fans dont care about the buisness side of things, rightfully so because we appreciate the sport as fans by you have to be aware that it IS a buisness as is every other sport. I believe both fighters have their faults in the fight not being made but I cant blame Floyd Mayweather for not wanting to do business with Bob Arum. Are you kidding me? the man is a slimeball, you talk about wanting mayweather out of the sport because hes bad for it, what about Arum? hes known to rob fighters, he never shows em the books and they never know how much they're really being paid. Garcia and Chavez are even trying to leave Arum because hes a slime, he makes his fighters sign long extensions before they get their big fight to ensure he has them by the sack. He was successful doing it to Bradley and Marquez, but a fighter of Manny's status should not be lowballed by a promoter like Arum, it only leads me to believe Manny is in serious debt with the Bobfather or Arum has some dirt on Pacquiao.. the resigning to Top Rank makes no sense for Manny business wise with the limited opponents he has available in TR.
