Comments Thread For: Arum: Cotto Will Earn More From Martinez Than Canelo

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum is confident that a deal will get reached for a June 7th clash between WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (51-2-2, 28KOs) and former three division king Miguel Cotto (38-4, 31KOs). The negotiations have gained more steam after Cotto said he was unable to get himself prepared in time to face Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on March 8th. Cotto was offered $10 million dollars to face Canelo on the date.

He's gonna have pay more taxes in NY than he would have had he fought Canelo at the MGM though. Curious to see what he gets paid for this fight after all this negotiating.

Cotto will pay more in hospital bills. So it should even out.

What evidence does Arum have for this "They know that the money from the pay-per-view, tickets and everything else tha's involved will generate much more revenue than anything offered by Golden Boy or anything that might generate in a fight between Miguel and Canelo."

is he talking out of his old wrinkly ass?

Canelo just came off a 2.2million PPV and has a fanbase larger than any fighter Cotto could fight right now. What the hell has Martinez done on PPV since doing 500k with Chavez Jr, another Mexican?

I really think Cotto-Canelo flirts with 1million PPVs. Cotto-Martinez doing 600k would be tops. Gate revenue would be much better for Cotto-Canelo too, they would need a stadium to meet the demand for Cotto-Canelo.

I'll bet if Golovkin had just beaten Martinez (which he hasn't, but let's just say if) then I guarantee you Cotto wouldn't be fighting Golovkin. And Martinez knows that if he fights Golovkin his reign is over, so this is an opportunistic fight on both guys' parts.

Exactly.. I thought this was called prized fighting(boxing)? No way does Cotto make more money by fighting Martinez, that's outright laughable. At least Canelo is a winnable fight for Cotto, If Martinez still has anything left in the tank I don't see Cotto beating him. So Cotto is basically taking less money for more risk

                Can't wait to hear Schaefer's response in 5 4 3 2...

My question is why didn't Cotto jump at the opportunity to fight Martinez when he wasn't as old and injured? Lol

Yup Schaefer responds fast as hell. I don't see how it's true though. If he's offered 10 mil for cAnelo plus a cAnelo ppv would sell much more lets be honest. Add in my taxes bob would have to give him 15 mil+ hell PAC barely even gets that guarantee
