Comments Thread For: HBO, Showtime Split Ratings Audience on December 7th

For boxing junkies who can’t watch the sport enough, the weekend’s action between December 6? proved to be an overload.

From a ratings perspective, it also proved that perhaps there is such a thing as too much boxing.

HBO and Showtime both provided loaded shows over the weekend, splitting the boxing audience nearly in half with conflicting telecasts. HBO’s live televised tripleheader from Atlantic City won the head-to-head battle, with an average of 518,000 viewers over the course of the telecast edging out Showtime’s quadrupleheader from Brooklyn, which managed an average of 489,000 viewers throughout its near four-hour telecast.

I saw no promotion for this fight outside of boxing news sites. i may have seen one commercial but it was the day of the fight. Can't blame Rigondeax for piss poor numbers.

Awesome night of boxing but I was torn between sticking with the Porter-Alexander fight (really enjoyed watching Porter work) and the Kirkland-Tapia bout (ultimately went with the Kirkland bought).

I was about to raise that same point in a separate argument. Aside from the mid-week press conference, wasn't very much done to raise awareness for the show. Having Agbeko as an opponent didn't help - card from inception to execution seemed geared towards sandbagging Rigondeaux.

Considering how disgusting Jim Lampley's comments were and the lack of promotion from HBO and Top Rank, the numbers aren't too bad. Agbeko's fan base didn't help either. A KO or two won't hurt, but ppl cant reject a winner.

Muhh, fuck those "fans" who walked/tuned out. Rigo was an absolute joy to watch, and I quite enjoyed Lara doing his thing too. But yes, too much boxing for one sitting... I'm sure I nearly got deep-vein thrombosis once I finally got up off my chair, after something like 7 hours straight.

What more marketable opponents are they hiding? Mathebula or Kiko huge in Jersey?

It's ok guys. You can admit that the fight was un-watchable. You won't lose your "real boxing fan" membership card

Agbeko was a disgrace to boxing I was so annoyed with him I wanted him to fking hit Rigo but he didnt even throw punches im surprised that many viewers stayed watching now we know how many "purists" are out there.
