Very good news hope it is not short lived like before, in any case the situation is that he has a long road ahead of him to even get back to a simple functioning person.

You have to admire the fans as well lots of fans showed a lot of heart and support and that just shows that most of the fans aren't blood thirsty animals that want each boxer to kill the other. There is honor and respect in boxing for guys who put it all on the line and fight their heart out to remain a winner. Sometimes it doesn't work out sometimes it ends up horribly like this but to know that there are still good people out there in this uncertain world shines light on this situation.

Here's some additional information, as reported by Dan Rafael:

(Promoter, Nathan) Lewkowicz said he was briefed on Abdusalamov's condition on Monday by Dr. Rup Swarup, the neurosurgeon handling the case.

"The doctor told me he is out of the coma and awake and that he is aware of his surroundings, and they are moving him to a regular room (on Tuesday)," Lewkowicz said. "They said this is different than last time (he was taken out of the coma) because this time he's showing more improvement.

"He's awake. He's not able to speak but he's awake and aware of his surroundings even if he can't speak. His eyes are open.

"He said they won't know how his brain is until 18 months after the injury, but it's only been a month and his brain is still healing. The doctor said he most likely will have some limb dysfunction, but they don't exactly what it will mean. He was on death's doorstep when they brought him in after the fight, but the fact that he was young and healthy made all the difference. He's making progress. He's going to live but they don't know what his limitations are going to be."

Some of those guys who start with an undefeated knockout streak have a bully mentality and just fall apart the first time they face somebody who can stand up to them, but Magomed gave his heart and soul in the Garden. Let's hope he still has a good life ahead, God bless him.

It would be nice if there was a story about Perez visiting him in the hospital.
