We do need to remember those girls were very willing **********s to begin with, they weren't innocent girls, they used their vaginas to generate money from guys and they did it for years. Of course they didn't deserve to be beaten but we do need to put things in perspective, it wasn't like these were random girls. They willingly had *** with the same "rapists" many times in the past. It's more like a husband "raping" a wife. Is it **** or is it roleplay..

For example, if Stevenson had just ****d a random girl on the street, someone he had not had *** with many times before and who had never consented to *** before, then the **** is of a more severe nature.
This is generally how the courts view the severity of **** too, so it's not just my personal opinion. It's why husbands often get less time if they're convicted of raping their wife. But the beating was unnecessary - if you read the article you'll see one of the girls said that she thought Stevenson was scared of the boss so he was following orders more than anything so Stevenson wasn't the mastermind behind the incident, he was sort of a henchman.

It doesn't matter if they had *** before.
If it was against her will, it was ****.

That's why it's better to adhere to a more advanced legal system - to determine whether a crime took place, the severity of the crime given the circumstances taking into consideration relationships, motives of defendant and prosecution, and then to administer the appropriate punishment for the crime.
It's not just "you stole that apple you get your hands cut off.. in other words **** is ****."
