Comments Thread For: Insider Notebook: Andre Ward's New Chapter, Molina

By Robert Morales - Andre Ward thought about the question for a second, then talked about getting on with his career while still fighting under Dan Goossen and his Goossen Tutor Promotions banner. Earlier this year Ward filed for arbitration with the California State Athletic Commission in an attempt to free himself of his promotional contract with Goossen.

One of Ward's beefs was that Goossen was allegedly curtailing his career because Goossen did not include him, co-promoter Antonio Leonard and manager James Prince in discussions with HBO regarding his future. Goossen won in arbitration in late June, and his contract with Ward remains intact. Now, the two still have to work together.

"You've gotta find a way to put it behind you," said Ward, who Saturday will fight for the first time in 14 months when he defends his super middleweight title against Edwin Rodriguez at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif. (on HBO). "And it's the old adage, 'It's not personal, it's business.' " [Click Here To Read More]

Ward just may retire undefeated. He's a damn good boxer and more importantly a very smart one. It will be a tall order to dethrone him.

Edwin has a longer reach and I saw him swinging wide in his Grachev fight. I expect him to jump early on Ward and try to catch him with a big punch. I also expect Andre to use his high quality left hand punches and clinch quite a lot, until he adapts and begins to control the fight. If Ward is fully recovered I guess he would be looking to stop Edwin in the later rounds.

(I would like to see Ward fighting Chavez Jr. next, but I don't know if Jr. has the required guts.)

Ward will box vs the wilder, hard hitting Rodriguez 2 win a UD...if only Andre would b more aggressive, he'd be in top 3 P4P...I'd like 2c him vs JCC Jr...

So, can you enlighten us and tell us who (in your opinion) is #2 and #3 p4p right now? I would really like to know....

I don't want to see Chavez Jr. again until he starts taking the sport seriously. I've never seen someone so blatantly disinterested in boxing. He has the skill set and tutelage to be outstanding; just not all there mentally.

To be honest, I don't want to see Ward fighting Chavez Jr. either -- but I guess this would have been the safest and most lucrative fight Ward could take.
Like many others I would really like to see Ward fighting the likes of Golovkin, Stevenson, Kovalev. Such fights might be possible only if Ward's work with his right hand would look dramatically enhanced this Saturday...
