    becoming a boxing photographer

i am really passionate about photography and boxing.why not merge the two together and make a career out of it ? i am currently a doorman in NYC and i make decent money and its a steady job but its not what i want to do forever.i would like to do something that i love and get payed for it.i live in NJ so i feel im in a great area since theres plenty of prizefighting in atlantic city,MSG,and barclays.

so my questions are: are there any boxing photographers here ? how did you get started ? also any tips or advice on how to make this dream a reality ?

i would really appreciate it thank you

I don't think I can help you here, but your username is a massive coincidence since you're passionate about photography. (unless you're that passionate about photography that you named your account after them)

Find out what the next event in your area is, go to the press conference and make as many connections as you can with the media people. If you're a good photographer and persistent enough, things should start happening for you.

most members of the boxing media are unpaid. don't expect to make a career out of it. there's almost no money in it in the age of internet boxing coverage.

people don't read (or pay for) newspapers any more.

if you're at press row and getting paid for it you'll be in a tiny minority. the same goes with photographers. very few of them make their living from boxing, and if they're even paid at all it will only be a small amount.

expect to foot your own bill for hotels and travel if you end up at any big fights. expect your equipment to be your own.

if you can get ringside for a big fight as a media member the reward is usually the seat and experience. oyu also get a right to all of the original content you produce as a media member with credentials. if you take the best photo ever you can sell it.

Funnily enough Donaire does often reply on twitter.

Although we can kind of guess how he got that job.
