Ruslan needs to move onto bigger and better things, Mike needs a break and a fight with a person who isn't going to give him hell for once.

Alavarado is a brawler first. He moves at times but isn't effective when he does it. He needs to plant his feet and exchange to stage his attack. You can't change his instincts. Very few will outbrawl Provodnikov.
Rematch will be no different.

Too much ineffective movement, too inaccurate, and lackluster defense. I think the first two can be overlooked if it wasn't for him getting caught with the same shots throughout the fight. How many times do you get hit with the left hook before you realize that your defense isn't working and needs to be adjusted? It was after round 6 that I had a feeling he wasn't gonna make it to the last bell.Last edited by kiaba360; 10-20-2013, 12:47 PM.

Ruslan Provodnikov wasn't so eager to get close when Mike was sticking and moving and Ruslan's punch output decreased but Mike got over confident and started taking too many body shots on the inside. Mike was the better boxer and was taking Ruslan's punches much better than he did Rios punches but the body punches add up before you realize it's too late. Mike wanted to put on a good show for the home crowd. He's going to lose alot of money now. I feel really bad for the kid.

I'm not sure I agree with his trainer's assessment at all. Boxing is the way to beat Provodnikov but you have to be fit and stay disciplined not to engage toe to toe too often.

Provodnikov is only effective on the inside, some strategic clinching would have been very beneficial to Alvarado's cause. Letting a guy eat you alive on the inside is not a wise move if you are the better guy at range.
But hey who cares if guys are really trying to win or not they should just lose a fight without trying~
