Comments Thread For: USA Boxing Pleads with Tyson Not to Sign Lubin

USA Boxing president Dr. Charles Butler sent an open letter to former undisputed heavyweight world champion and current pro promoter Mike Tyson earlier this morning in a plea not to sign a top amateur.

In an excerpt from the letter, Butler wrote:

“We have heard that you were waiting for early October so that our best hope, a 17-year-old athlete, can turn 18 and be of age to sign a contract with you. We have offered him a spot in our resident program at the U.S. Olympic Training Center where he can train in a safe environment and we can provide for his education. The facilities and support services at the Olympic Training Center are unmatched and would benefit him and his future in boxing greatly.”

A source has advised krikya360.com that the boxer in question is Erickson Lubin of Kissimmee, Fla., who was named Outstanding Boxer at the National PAL last year and won the National Junior Olympics twice. [Click Here To Read More]

*** the olympics. I've probably seen more robberies in them than I have in the pro's. Dude might as well start padding his pro record now, or risk 3 years of training only to get robbed of a medal.

I agree but pro boxing hasn't been much better lately.

if he is that good i would wait for the olympics. there is SUCH a big upside for him if he does well there. no set number but history has shown guys who at least medal make a large amount more in their first ten fights rather than someone who just goes pro off the bat.

The USA Boxing program is such a disaster that I would expect anyone with real talent to stick around. The entire program needs to be dismantled and rebuilt.

3 years is a LONG time to wait. Plus he isn't guaranteed a medal, is 18 and could be making change fighting in the pros right now. That isn't easy to turn down.
