Julio Cesar Chavez Jr had his hands full with Brian Vera Saturday night but he also had a battle before he stepped in the ring with the weight scale. The fight with Vera was originally contracted at a catch weight of 162 pounds and then upped a second time to the super middleweight limit of 168. That still wasn’t enough as the fight was ultimately adjusted a third time with the final weight being 173 pounds.
Leading up to the fight with Vera, Chavez made it clear he could still make 160 pounds and would fight there again should the right meaningful fight present itself. After seeing him have trouble to even meet the 168 pound limit, it’s become obvious the days of Chavez fighting at 160 pounds are over, right?
