Comments Thread For: Vera's Trainer is Furious Over Chavez/Weight Situation

Ronnie Shields, the trainer for Brian Vera, is not happy with the latest turn of events for this Saturday's fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

A nerve was struck after Shields read a story on krikya360.com, where Chavez's promoter, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, said the weight for Chavez-Vera has not been determined.

Apparently Arum wants to have both fighters weigh-in on Wednesday - and based on those numbers a decision will be made as to Saturday's fighting weight. [Click Here To Read More]

That what Im talking about, Handle your business Mr Shields! If Jr can't make weight, then he has to pay to get his weight up! Arum has been playing too many games..

They're going to negotiate a new weight either way. Might as well do it on tomorrow instead of Friday so Vera has some extra weight leeway before the official weigh in.

they all lose money if he does that.

you can probably kiss another fight on hbo goodbye.

vera is an espn level fighter. this training camp probably cost him more than an epsn purse (10 grand.)

arum has them by the balls. they'll try and posture for as much extra money as they can, but they'll end up taking the fight.

This not the amateurs, you just don't pull a fight especially if you met your obligation of the agreed upon contract weight.

Like Shields said, bring your check book on friday, and get ready to pay!! All BS aside.
Jr can't make weight, that his problem, pay the fucc up!!

ronnie shields is not just a good trainer, he's a great one.

edwin rodriguez overhauled his style, while maintaining his aggressive tendencies when a guy is hurt. he looks 10X the fighter he used to be. he has a real jab now, and he's patient. he used to just wade in winging punches. he has a great chin, so it worked, but shields gave him a style that would allow him to get to the top by building a telephone pole jab.

i wish shields, vera, and rodriguez the best. if vera and rodriguez sparred you bet your ass it was TV level stuff, rofl. those two are aggressive.
