Your Score After the First 6 Rounds of Matthysse-Garcia?

Some people have claimed that Garcia was beating Matthysse convincingly throughout the whole fight and that Lucas only won a few rounds, but I actually had Lucas winning 4-2 after 6. It seems like many boxing writers (the judges also had to give Lucas rounds somewhere given that they were pretty close) had similar scores and the compubox numbers (except for activity/punches thrown) through 6 were in Lucas' favor. Garcia had apparently connected on 24% of his punches, while Lucas had connected on 36% (same percentage after 12) of his shots. Lucas had also outlanded Garcia by 22 punches through 6 according to these numbers.

I understand that you can reasonably argue Garcia landed the cleaner shots, but I rewatched it and Lucas landed some pretty solid shots himself. I just don't think Danny's punches were significantly cleaner to give him some of those early rounds, although I could definitely spot instances where Danny braced for or neutralized Lucas' power with his positioning. He looks to have a heck of a chin regardless though.

I also just want to make it clear that I believe Garcia won the fight and made some nice adjustments to do so. IMO, a rematch may be warranted in the future if both fighters continue to compete at a high level and Lucas makes some improvements, but I would like to see both fighters move on for the time being. I picked Matthysse to win, but Garcia definitely continues to improve and impressed me a lot. I look forward to seeing what he does next at WW or LWW. Boxing could certainly use more young champions like Garcia who are willing to take risks.

The bold is a true statement.

I didn't score the fight, but it certainly seemed to me that it was very close before Matthysse's eye closed up. After that, Garcia started pulling away.

I think I had it 3-3. I had Lucas starting stronger and ending stronger minus the knockdown. Garcia took the middle rounds and ended up winning more rounds in my book

I had it 57-57 and ended up scoring it 115-111 Garcia, meaning I thought he dominated the second half.

        I believe I gave 1, 3, and 4 to Danny and 2,5 and 6 to Lucas.

Lucas actually had a pretty good 6th round before the eye was closed in 7. Garcia could have been given every round after 6, although the 10th I had for Lucas I think (I'll have to rewatch the second half to see if I still think so). The 11th round was very exciting and Danny definitely came through in the clutch with that knockdown.

yes rabbit punching a guy so he's defenseless in between the ropes is clutch. the ref was god awful. the 10th and 12th were clearly matthysse's. the 11th also was a dominant round before and after the knockdown which shouldn't have happened because the ref is there to protect the fighters and he didn't do that.

                I thought the 12th was clearly Garcia's.

I had Matthysse winning by a point going into the sixth. From my view, he was starting to come on really strong prior to the eye swelling shut on him, but that's boxing. **** happens, and props to Garcia for capitalizing on it.

I don't think the fight was anywhere near the wipout most of NSB seems to think it was, though. I'd like to see a rematch, but I know Garcia is moving on to bigger and better things, and I can't blame him for making the most of his opportunities.
