JMM turning down a near MILLION dollar purse agaisnt Pacquiao was widely regarded as his way of saying he didn't want that fight.

The belts at Feather are meaningless, because for the last few years the top fighters have abandoned them to fight eachother. Manny won the true Featherweight crown when he beat Barrera.

Not that any of that changes the fact the the BIGGER DRAW is Pacquiao, easilly.

But beyond those to OBVIOUS reasons is the fact that JMM cannot even make $100 000 for his fights now. When he's making PEANUTS for money, it makes the fact he turned down a near MILLION dollar purse even more suspect.

As I recall, Pac made more (US$150,000.00) as a Flyweight (his ill-fated defense of his first world-title in Thailand) than Marquez currently makes as Featherweight alphabet champion, not facing Pacman . That, notwithstanding that Pac had a "provincial" management team at the time, and Marquez has a Nacho and that current dollars are not what they used to be.

Why, even Marquez's younger brother, Rafa, makes more than 50,000 USD for a fight! That amount, says SnoopySmurf, is what JMM got for fighting Victor Polo.

If self-respect is the issue (he's champ and must get more than Manny), how can Juan Manuel wake up each morning knowing that his kid brother makes more than he does? Is that self-respect?
