Comments Thread For: Ellerbe: Floyd is Not Credited Enough For Carrying Boxing

Floyd Mayweather will once again participate in what promises to be one of the biggest and most financially lucrative fights in the sports’ history when he takes on Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV.

Mayweather along with Oscar De La Hoya hold the record for the most Pay Per View buys with their fight in 2007 having 2.45 million purchases. This fight with Alvarez assures to be on the same level and some even think it could break the record as Golden Boy has promised to have the fight accompanied with a stellar undercard.

Mayweather’s success as a household name goes hand in hand with his skill set which is regarded as the best in the sport. His defense along with his ring IQ, speed and fighting ability has led to an undefeated career thus far. Despite being considered the pound for pound best, there are still some who refuse to give him proper credit or respect according to Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe.

that's because the trend Floyd started (high reward low risk) has slowed boxing down. fighters don't care to fight the best no more ever since Floyd/Margarito issue boxing hasn't been the same in regards of making the best fihts

The only thing Floyd carries is heavy cheques. Boxing was fine, better even without him when he 'retired' the first time and it'll be so much better when he retires and takes his circus with him. The wife beating, the once a year mismatches, the ducking, the cherrypicking, the failed drug tests, the excuses, the bs, the flowmoes, al Hymen etc. The guy is a stain on the sports history as well as its present, could have given so much but decided to just take instead.

I hear what he's saying, but if Floyd really wanted to do boxing a favour, he'd have faught Pacquiao. Would've sold 3mil ppv, and help mend a ****ed up relationship between the sports 2 biggest promoters.

Floyd is no question the best pound for pound and I'm def a fan but man I think its getting silly hearing his team and him say how the been dominating for 17 years! I'm not hating but come on you've been winning as a pro for 17 years but all 17 haven't been dominant! Maybe for like 7 years but to say this means been dominating for 17 years is just not facts! He's been winning and doing a hell of a job for 17 but not dominant his whole career.

Floyd carries Ellerbe. Without Floyd, he be rubbing chests for free!

Floyd retired or had breaks and boxing was fine.
