Comments Thread For: Team Mosquera Respond to Guzman Team Claims on Deal

It was reported earlier by BoxingScene’s Jake Donovan that Joan Guzman had come in 8 pounds overweight for his fight against Vicente Mosquera for the interim WBA Junior Welterweight title. Weight issues have plagued Guzman’s career as this is not the first time he’s failed to make the contractual weight for a fight.

Mosquera’s advisor Anthony Gonzalez reached out to BoxingScene to clear up some of the comments that were made by Guzman’s manager Jose Nunez. Nunez has said Mosquera’s camp was understanding and appreciative of the advanced notice given to them regarding Guzman’s lack of making weight. Gonzalez said they had no advance notice whatsoever.

Wow. Guzman is a disgrace to boxing. How does he keep getting so many chances? That had to be done on purpose.

With the money Guzman's camp is forking over, fight after fight, for him not making weight, they could have hired a nutritionist/chef to keep him on weight during camp.

so much 4 the"interim" title...2 days notice would've been good, they knew ...Guzman gets away w/2 much...I hope Mosquera doesn't take the bout, just 2 save a very mediocre show...he's giving up 2 wt classes....so where's FL Box Commish & what are they doing???no wonder they haven't had a world title fight in this mis-managed state since Berto in early 2010...

to have missed the weight by EIGHT pounds guzman and his team must have known before he started cutting water he wasn't going to make it?

Mosquera should just call the fight off.

However, he almost certainly needs the money so an alternative is to make Guzman reweigh a couple of hours before fightime with a stipulated limit that is no more than what Mosquera will rehydrate to.

They should start tricking Guzman tell him the fight is at 126 pounds then maybe he'll be 140.
