Comments Thread For: Klitschko Had Advised Banks To Postpone Mitchell Clash

Trainers typically save fighters from themselves, not vice versa.

In the case of Johnathon Banks, however, the heavyweight champion he trains probably prevented him from making a costly mistake four months ago.

Banks suffered a fracture to a bone in his right thumb while sparring Feb. 4 for his heavyweight rematch against Seth Mitchell. A hand specialist in his native Detroit told Banks the next day his injury would require six weeks worth of rest to truly heal, but Banks still wanted to go forward with the Mitchell rematch, then scheduled for Feb. 16 in Atlantic City.

It took a call from Wladimir Klitschko to convince Banks that postponing the rematch was the right thing to do. [Click Here To Read More]

    Simple, but good advice.

Unfortunately, most fighters aren't smart enough to stay out of the ring when they're not 100% ready.

It's not about being smart, it's about getting that red mist.

I have done it buying vehicles, when you have looked for weeks, you kind of jump at something not worth it because you just want to get something so badly.

Yeah. Like he did the first time.

Seth Mitchell should stick to football.

I know Bank's won, but Mitchell can't be taken lightly, can he?

No heavyweight with power can ever be taken lightly...boxing history has confirmed that over and over. That being said, we all know the stats on rematches when one fighter KO's his opponent in the first match up. I'm really looking forward to Saturday night's fight card.

So does this mean that Wladimir thinks Haye went into their fight handicapped?

Banks is too skilful for Mitchell. You can only get so far by just hitting hard and being in decent shape.
