GTFOH with these promotors. GBP signed Lara to feed to Canelo but along the line relized that would be a 50/50 proposition for Canelo. Same reason they signed Paulie and got him a trinket. To feed him to their GBP flavor of the month at 147.
Arum says things about Rigo, but he gives him the royal treatment just the same:

    interim shot after 6 bouts
full title shot vs inept Haymon client Ramos, after 8
    Poon at short notice
a shot at Donaire, for 750k, after 11 bouts. probably much higher than Mares' career best purse

I mean he didn't sugar coat it or anything. He just came out and said let's not BS each other the guy's not exciting.

WTF?! You're his promoter. Say something else positive then to drum up interest in the guy. Like how he got up twice from being floored by one of the hardest hitters in the division.

What he said was the truth in a way, and sums up what a lot of people think about Lara/THAT style of boxing. But he still has a commitment to the fighter to sell him to the public.
Very, he doesn't know anything about promoting. Even if the thing you're promoting is **** (Lara is the complete opposite he is God Gifted) you lie and say how great it is! F him and Arum

Different circumstances. Rigo might be the most decorated amateur in history. He already had cred from before his pro debut. That said, Rigo wasn't who TR wanted coming out on top in the Nonito scrap especially considering Arum going Far East with his cards.

Good Article!!!! There is nothing wrong with what Schafer said here, because it was absolutely the truth weather some people want to acknowledge it or not.

The fight was excitting, but it was excitingg because of Anguko pushing the action, not because of Lara. Lara would have been content to throw a punch and run arounf the ring.

He isn't easy to sale to the casual fan because of his style.

I;m sure Lara gained a lot more fans after last night's fight. He sure made a fan out of me, and the folks that were watching the fight last night. The man has a chin, bolas, and heart![/QUOTE]

Lara vs.Angulo was a great fight. A classic boxer vs. puncher where the boxer had to get off the deck to win the bout. What more does Lara have to do to get the respect of Richard Schaefer. I dont know many fighters who would have gotten up after those knockdowns. Lara is one of the best fighters in the world. Cant hate on him for fighting like Mayweather.

Goddamn the butthurt is strong with this one.
It's funny how if this was Khan,Canelo,Pacquiao or Ortiz etc. They have weak chins, but Lara gets rocked twice, and he has heart and he showed ability to recover.

It's funny how depending on who the fighter is he's either gutsy or weak chinned.

If these so called promoters think they're the goods, prove it.
Whats the difference with guys like Khan,Canelo Matthyse, even Garcia, and Maidana. They have fan friendly sttyles and they make for exciting fights.

Like Schafer said with guys like Lara and Rig you have to carefully match them up with the right fighter to draw interest.

                  PS
Gamboa is not considered a boring fighter.
Agreed!! I guess we can tell who Richard Schaefer wanted to win. Funny thing is when Mayweather beat The Ghost, he said it was a brilliant performance. Now he's saying Lara's style is hard to sell. Come on man, stop hating on the Cuban fighters.

There was that video of Arum saying, Donaire is not getting past the likes of Rigo when he moves up. Maybe he changed his mind and this was a setup for Rigo to lose, still 750k is pretty damn generous for the 12th fight at 122. Donaire was p4p and The Man in several divisions before he got there, and Mares is nowhere near those purses yet. Mix in Rigo's not so crowd pleasing style, lack of English, and this is the absolute best he could hope for, other than TR making peace with GBP and trying to deliver Mares, Santa Cruz, but that goes way beyond Rigo.
