At the time of the stoppage, Angulo (22-3, 18 KOs) was closing the gap on the scorecards. He was ahead 86-83 on one, and down 85-84 by the other two judges. He dropped Lara twice, in the fourth and in the ninth, but the fight came to an unexpected end in the tenth when Lara threw a series of punches and one of them broke Angulo's orbital bone near his left eye.
