Comments Thread For: Stevenson: Now You See Why People Won't Fight Me!

Adonis Stevenson stopped Chad Dawson in the first round to claim the WBC light-heavyweight title in Montreal on Saturday night.

The fight was over after 76 seconds; the result of a swinging left-handed punch that made an end to Dawson’s reign.

Stevenson, a Haiti-born Canadian who, at 35, has fought in only 22 professional fights, improved to his record to 21-1, with 19 wins inside the distance.

Dawson, who was trying to bounce back from a tenth-round loss to Andre Ward in a super middleweight fight, suffered an even more embarrassing defeat, his record falling to 31-3.

Don't be fooled by the Dawson knockout Mr. Stevenson. Dawson was damaged goods and you were in the right place at the right time.

I called this result from the day this fight was announced. The last opponent Chad needed to face was a murderous puncher in what should've been a confidence builder.

Anyone have Stevenson's post fight interview? It was almost as hilarious as Sam Peter's infamous "who necks" interview to me.

He's not right though. Froch and Kessler didn't fight him because there was more money in fighting each other and they were 2 and 3 in the division.

I'm not even sure Ward fights him next because there's not a lot of upside with him in terms of being well known in the US.

Maybe Stevenson can fight Kovalev next. Kovalev fights in 5 days time, so their schedules will be in sync.

Good. I'm glad he said this. Now when/if Kovalev wins next week, he can have his first defense against Kovalev. There should be no excuses, since no one wants to fight him
