SAN ANTONIO, Texas: Saul “Canelo?Alvarez (42-0-1, 30KOs) notched a 12-round unanimous decision victory over Austin Trout (26-1, 14KOs) Saturday to unify the World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association light middleweight titles on Saturday night. The three judges at ringside scored it overwhelmingly in Alvarez’s favor: 115-112, 116-111 and 118-109.
Alvarez landed a sharp straight right that knocked down Trout seconds into the seventh round ?the first time the American had ever been down. The crowd of nearly 40,000 at San Antonio’s Alamodome was pro-Alvarez, and the 22-year-old from Guadalajara appreciated their backing.
