Comments Thread For: Rigondeaux Open To Facing a Top Featherweight at 124

Rigo doesn't have faith in his conditioning yet to go back and forth with 126lb fighters who could take his punches. He's like Lara with the holding/squeezing if you get too close and get too busy. Look for a boring outing from Rigo if he goes up in weight anytime soon. I think he'll need another year, year and a half before he moves up.

I actually thought about this and told a friend anyone at 126 would be a fair deal he goes up 2 they go down 2. But the height might be an issue if the guy is real tall for a featherweight other than that 126 is cake for Rigo.

I don't think size would be a problem for Rigondeaux because of his skills. All the guys at Featherweight are taller than Rigondeaux, and most of them are LW's and JWW's on fight night. But if you think about it, Donaire is like 5' 7" and was at least a LW. He was 129 against Arce, he looked a bit heavier against Rigondeaux, probably over 130 pounds. And Rigondeaux had no problem with him. Now at 126 i'm sure the guys there could come in 8-12lbs heavier than 126, while Rigondeaux would probably not even make the 126 limit, he'd come under, and on fight night he'd probably come in under 130. So he'd be outweighed and shorter. But I think he could take them, especially if he has the style advantage.

Rigo seems too small in stature to move up to 126. Having said that, there really is only Abner Mares left to fight at 122 so he may have to move up if he wants to make a name for himself. He took care of Donaire and he was huge in comparison so maybe it won't be a problem as long as he retains his speed and reflexes.

I also think Rigo is too short for 126.
I would just say stay at 122, maybe get mares, and stay busy since there may not be much competition. Defend the belt 3 times a year after about 10 defenses his stock might go up and by then he might be ready to go to 126.
The only problem with that is his age. Him being 32 already, that plan doesn't work. So if he wants to make money he's gonna have to take some risks and maybe fight Mares, Ponce De Leon, or Mikey Garcia at 126.
