There is risk 2 fold for Broner if he leaves GBP...
1. Getting GOOD fights - People saying being on an indie/neutral promo company should get him fights with both promoters. Maybe, but how has that worked for Don King's current fighters and the fighters 50 Cent currently has?
2. Getting access to the major networks - With HBO/Showtime forming alliances with the top 2 promoters, would SMS be able to get him access to these big networks? If Showtime refuses to take Broner as SMS fighter due to alliance with GBP, he has little leverage with HBO in terms of his pay.
All of this lends to fighters signing shorter contracts with promotional companies.
Tough call for Broner...but Showtime MUST be willing to out pay HBO so maybe Showtime makes abandoning his "Mr HBO" name worth while. Because of the grimey ish going on in the business, I would just be very paranoid about putting my career in the hands of 50 Cent who is unproven and could up and exit the business the moment he decides he's tired of it and realizes he's still rich.
