It would be a win-win for Floyd: he looks like he isn't scared of this kid by signing to fight him knowing full well that the odds are that Trout wins anyways, and he doesn't have to even worry about it if Canelo does lose because he has no agreement to fight Trout.
By making up an excuse to not sign the agreement, he looks suspect to me. It seems to me that he thinks Canelo has a good shot to win against Trout.
What other big money fight is out their for Floyd? You think Floyd is gonna avoid Ginger if he beats Trout when there is no other big names out their? And you think he`s want some redhead who never fought anyone to tell him i`ll fight on your undercard if you sign a contract stipulating you fight me afterwards?

Even here in America, in the boxing world, he is a pretty big star already. He has been headlining main events and fighting on PPV undercards for more than a year now. My thing is that he had nothing to lose by signing to fight him in September provided he beat Trout in May. He would have gotten that boost from having Canelo on the undercard and if he really was worried about his ability to beat Canelo in a fight, it sounds like Trout should beat him anyways.
It could just be a Floyd ego thing but he had nothing to lose by signing it if he plans on fighting Canelo next anyways. He just lost out on a bunch of PPV sales that's really all he accomplished which is counter-intuitive since he is about making money. If he really is planning on fighting Canelo in September provided he beats Guerrero and Canelo beats Trout on May 4th, he is going to have a hard time now especially if Canelo destroys Trout.
He could have put some stipulations in there giving Floyd certain rights or a preliminary pay structure to lock Canelo in before his stock had a potential to rise. Looking at it from a business decision, He has more leverage on Canelo now than he will if Canelo headlines his own card and draws in huge ratings with a tremendous KO win.
I guarantee that if both guys win and Canelo wins impressively when he fights Trout, the fight will not get made in September or any other time. If not for Floyd just not wanting the fight, it'll be because Canelo and his team will demand too much.
Especially if Floyd has trouble with Guerrero. He could have gotten Canelo to agree to certain things in exchange for him agreeing to fight him in September but he has left the door open for Canelo's stock to skyrocket and gain massive leverage now.Last edited by mathed; 02-28-2013, 10:25 PM.
