It really comes down to how much you like the Nishioka win, that is his best win of the year but if you don't like that win much you could make a strong case for 2 good wins being better than 4 decent wins or 1 great win with another win being greater.
It is all a matter of opinion at that point quantity or quality.Originally posted by warp1432 View PostI'll take you up on this debate. I voted for Marquez in the poll because of a couple of factors.
1. Pacquiao is clearly a better win over Donaire's best win of the year, Nishioka.
2. Marquez's win over Pacquiao was very impressive. The fight was close, but Marquez finished him off with a brilliant KO and boxed well beforehand.
3. Nonito's four guys are impressive, but he failed to look spectacular in any of them with the exception possibly being the Arce fight.
It's mainly point number three that has me wrapped up voting for Marquez. Donaire has done a great thing by fighting four times a year and frankly every fighter should be ideally fighting that many times a year. However, was there really ever a performance that stood out as "Wow this guy is definitely the fighter of the year?"
Marquez has that performance. While his other win of the year against Fedenchko was meh, his performance over Pacquiao was just so stunning. It has that quality that Martinez had in his win over Williams or even Ward against Froch.
This isn't an ideal circumstance because Donaire has wins over four quality fighters, but I think it's Marquez's performance over his key rival that gives him the edge.
1: Hate him (Donaire)
2: Fancy the other guys more
3: Have no idea who he fought (doesn't matter if you've seen more fights of Donaire's opponents than he has... Lol)

Guerrero moved up from lightweight to welterweight (2 weight classes) and a severe shoulder injury to become #3 in a division ahead of Pacquiao and to enter the top 10 P4P Ring rankings... Donaire's been a heavy favorite against all of his opponents this year. The joke is on you, but your head is shoved so far up your ass you can't realize it.
According to Russian, you either:
1: Hate him (Donaire)
2: Fancy the other guys more
3: Have no idea who he fought (doesn't matter if you've seen more fights of Donaire's opponents than he has... Lol)

Even if you say Berto is as good as a Nishioka win, he only fought 1 other guys who is comparable to an Acre, the weakest link for Donaire this year. THen Donaire has 2 more fights along with that
He may not have had a year as good as Donaire, Viloria, Garcia, Marquez etc but he's had an impressive year.

Coming up in weight and beating a guy who didn't come to lose > beating 3 guys who you are heavily favorite over.
Those 3 fights don't even have replay value while Berto Guerrero is candidate for FOTY.
But whatever, Thats your opinion. I have more appreciation for quality over quantity.
In other words, Donaire is the krokodil, Marquez is the real deal.
