    BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida - Undefeated IBO junior welterweight champion Khabib Allakhverdiev (18-0, 8 KOs) won an eighth round technical split decision over previously unbeaten Joan Guzman (33-1-1, 20 KOs) to capture the vacant "regular" WBA 140-pound title. Guzman was dropped in the third, although two knockdowns were missed by the referee and the fight was stopped in the eight after Guzman said he injured his left knee. Khabib won on two cards with a score of 76-75, while Guzman was was ahead 76-75 on the third card.

    i have not seen the fight.

    that said, how does it become a technical decision if guzman quits after hurting his knee? was there a bodyslam, or something?

    this is boxing, not tennis. that's a knockout loss...

      because the ref ruled the injury was caused by an accidental foul.

      There were a couple of times the action stopped. The first time guzman was tripped and was obviously hurt/limping, that's when it was ruled an accidental foul. The ref asked guzman if he could continue, he said yes and the fight went on. Moments later Guzman went down again, this time in what appeared to be much more pain and the fight was stopped, still citing the original leg injury.

          Guzman is done wasted career but this Russian has belts so he could get the top 140 pounders now

            Ref ruled it an "accidental foul" which would make it going to the scorecards the right decision. However the accidental foul ruling was complete BS and never should of got called and Khabib should of won by TKO, IMO. Either way....Guzman was going to get knocked out regardless.
