    Barry McGuigan has hit out at the notion that Andrew Flintoff's boxing experience is belittling to the sport.

    Former England cricket star Flintoff recovered from a second-round knockdown to claim a debut points victory against limited American novice Richard Dawson over four two-minute rounds at the Manchester Arena.

    The 34-year-old's preparations for the bout were charted in a Sky television documentary, causing many in the boxing fraternity to question his motives for stepping into the ring. [Click Here To Read More]

    Good on him for having a go , but what pissed me off a bit about this was that he topped the bill ahead of fighters that have dedicated themselves to boxing and earned the right to fight pro especially when he was pretty bad there are boys in my gym that haven't had a bout yet that are better than that ! God knows how Dawson has a 2-0 record he was terrible

        Didnt see the fight, but how can you win a 4rd fight when you get knocked down in a round.

        Oh its in the UK? Ian John Lewis be representing.

          Um maybe he was the sole reason several thousand people turned up. these other guys will only sell out local sports halls. It was abit of a show, nothing more. but it might get more people interested in boxing, so why are people so downbeat.

          in regards to comment how do you win 4 rounder when suffered knockdown..

          its called 10-9, 8-10, 10-9, 10-9 =38-37 duhh, he was more active in all rounds

            as rubbish as he is, i don't really see how he's "belittling" the sport. he's just a fan having a go, which is great. the problem is the promoters and tv men who're exploiting him because of his profile. if he continues to fight, i just hope it doesn't reach a point where the hype-train dictates that he face someone with a decent boxing background, because he would get absolutely battered and humiliated, and i don't really want to see that.

              Well he was the aggressor for the whole fight. The other guy caught him when he placed himself in a funny position. So he won 3 rounds to 1 with one knockdown against him. Surprisingly, the decision was fair, his opponent hardly did anything in the fight expect that knockdown and lot of holding. Watch it and you'll see what I mean. You'll marvel at the elite level skill on display.

                The bout was scored 39-38 that's why the score was bollox

                  Good on him for doing it, I don't know why people are belittling him. Face it, I bet 90% of the critics are probably of the armchair, internet warrior type and would bet that they themselves haven't been in a ring, whether that be amateur or professional.

                    Quite the opposite it's people that have trained and boxed and know how hard it is that think it's a bit of a farce , the fact is it was all about making money and if he'd gone in with a real pro he'd of been hurt . I give him credit for fighting but not credit for who he beat and how he boxed
