Was there a purse bid for this fight or something that I'm missing? No.
GBP accepted an offer with a counter-offer, which leaves us nowhere.
What I'm suggesting is for GBP to call Arum on his proposal and just negotiate as much money for Mares like they do when they send their fighters to get schooled by Mayweather.
If Mares wins, GBP calls the shots... that simple. If he loses, well we are at least one step closer for them working together again and we saw a fight we want to see.

At the moment? When in history has it made sense for two Al Haymon fighters to fight each other?

We don't know if he would match two of his guys up or not if the demand for such a fight would be crazy high.

A couple of times actually and in the future there will be many more times. Just cause he's not in the spot light like Arum people are easy to forget about his "smart business decisions".

Arum has done much much much more than Haymon for boxing and it ain't even close.
