Even with the round scored, the bout still resulted in a technical split decision draw. Scores were 86-85 Martirosyan, 87-84 Lara and 86-86 even.

The bout was to determine the mandatory challenger to unbeaten titlist Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez. A rematch will presumably be ordered, which means yet another optional defense for Alvarez, who has managed to avoid any semblance of a tough challenge since being given the belt last March. Lara was the better man. He was playing w/ dumb azz Vanes. Lara would've eventually KO'ed Vanes.
