If Floyd fought Canelo soon, he wouldn't really be hoping for that much credit currently because there would be no hope of that, unless the fight is a year away and he beats someone credible before year end then beats Cotto coming off a Trout victory. That is a lot of ifs however~

Really what he would have to hope for is Canelo turning it up after they fight and really turning into someone.

It would be like making an investment in a risky stock it could turn out to be huge or it could mean nothing.

Of course that is not mentioning the giant pile of cash he would take in from fighting Canelo.

Let him (Canelo) fight someone of worth, so Mayweather can get some credit for beating him, because as of right now, though it appears to be a good match up of undefeated fighters, Canelo has not fought a fighter half as good as Mayweather.

It would sell, Canelo has a much larger fan base than Cotto does. It still doesn't make it more legit than a fight with Martinez or Pac.

Maybe not pac but more than May-Martinez. Don't get me wrong May-Martinez is the fight I want to see and a "better" fight. Sergio isn't a huge draw though, and his fight with Jr. did 650k? buys... that's with a Mexican carrying fans on it too. Canelo-May does a lot better numbers than a Martinez bout would.

Added Edit: The point I'm trying to make is, just like everything else on the planet be it Sports, Video Games, Politics, really anything... no one gives a **** what the hardcore fans want, you have to learn to accept that. What the casual fans will pay for is what you're going to get 99% of the time, unless the interests coincide. Canelos fanbase is a lot bigger than Martinez and Floyd could sell PPVs fighting a homeless guy. That's what it boils down to in boxing... Money.
