One that Golden Boy wanted to do. I don't remember the full details off the top of my head at the moment(drinking).

I know I read something about it here for sure but don't remember if I went to the Ring website to read it as well.

I do remember reading this. It was just an idea by DLH though, never heard Canelo personally say he couldn't wait for it to happen or anything. It's become clear that he'd rather bypass all the other guys and go straight to Cotto/Mayweather.

Fact: He's a young LMW champion whose resume is filled with past-prime/shot and over-matched opponents. He won the title by fighting a WW punching bag in Matthew Hatton.
Fact: He hasn't fought one relevant 154lb contender yet.
Fact: Fights with Williams/Kirkland fall through, and then somehow, 147lber Ortiz becomes the front-runner to fight him. He loses to a guy coming up in weight, and now Lopez gets the shot.

Explain why him calling out Cotto and Mayweather automatically means he deserves to fight them. At least Cotto and Floyd are both veterans and their fight was somewhat overdue.
I did not use the word deserves. Deserves doesn't mean much in boxing these days. It is more about how much money a fighter brings in. Everyone wants to fight Floyd for the money he brings in. That is why I gave Cotto no credit for bravery for defending his tittle against Floyd and I give Canelo no credit for bravery for calling out Floyd. As bad as Canelo's tittle defenses were, Cotto's defenses of his 154 tittle were worse. Cotto was champion 9 months earlier than Canelo and in almost two years only fought Margarito and Mayorga, two unrated fighters. Canelo defended against Rhodes who was a top 10 154 pounder rated #4 by Ring and he fought Cintron who in spite of his loss was still rated in the top 10 and he fought Mosley and Gomez. Did Cotto even try to fight a tough guy at 154?Why are you so hard on Canelo as 154 pound champion and give Cotto a free pass to fight washed up fighters? As far as Canelo deserving fights with Floyd and Cotto goes, he deserves them because he is the undefeated WBC champion and the 4th biggest moneymaker in boxing. Name one fighter other than Martinez and Pacquiao that deserve a fight with Mayweather more than Canelo. Why should Canelo the champion have to earn a fight against Cotto who just lost his last fight? You are a Cotto fan and I am a Canelo fan. I hope they fight so I can place a large bet on Canelo.

              of course money talks

why else do you think they're trying to keep him from losing?

they're not going to send him into a fight with bigger guys with more experience who work for other promotors ..

              come on, now.
              at least be realistic.

i'm guessing that canelo will fight floyd mayweather in 2013. perhaps miguel cotto. they're smaller guys, but they're the two ranked fighters at jr MW

you guys really are naive, aren't you?

a 22 year old boxer does not pick his opponents.

these guys take punches to the head for a living. they are not in charge of a multi million dollar enterprise like goldenboy promotions. all they do is train and fight when they're 22 years old.

you try and maintain a vendetta against alvarez, when he's not the person making these matches. take it up with goldenboy promotions and the general philosophy of moving a young fighter with a high potential for earning money. that's where your beef is.

I HATE that Cotto isn't doing himself justice by trying to fight the top LMWs, just makes his career easier to criticize. Fighting Foreman was fine, but Mayorga was throwaway. Margarito fight was irrelevant in the grand scheme, but it was significant for him because he needed to get over that obstacle. Beating Margarito was a personal victory, that's it. Canelo already has built-in excuses if he fights Cotto/Mayweather and loses. Cotto is nearing the twilight of his career while Canelo is about to reach his prime. Cotto shouldn't be held to the same standard when he's already done work in previous divisions, it's become clear that Cotto's decisions are more influenced by the $$$. Canelo is being treated as if he has the stature of a Cotto already, but his current resume doesn't support that. I'm a Cotto fan because he fought everyone there was to fight (except Hatton). He's had some throwaway fights and was a TR product, but he was brought up in a way that I can respect. Canelo is still being protected, yet in the same breath is said to be the future. GB isn't even trying to put him in a position where he can't be criticized. I know it ain't his responsibility, but at the end of the day, he's the one who has to step in between those ropes. He's the one who will be talking to the media and attempting to sell his fights to us. He's the one who said, “There are no small fights at this level or small fighters! I’m preparing for the most dangerous fight of my career". And I know, there will come a time where he'll have to fight Vanes/Lara/Kirk/Molina, but I'm tired of waiting. I'm tired of a guy's lack of earning potential being viewed as a legit excuse to avoid them.

I'm not directly blaming Canelo, but it'll always sound that way because he's the beneficiary of preferential treatment. When you have the WBC saying you can't take a fight with Trout because they would strip you, that can only happens with guys who are under the Rising Star protection plan.

And you're right about Rhodes being a contender. That guy was just not on my radar at all, but he was #3 WBC so fair is fair.
