i remember Holmes beating Ali's old ass...i remember Tyson knocking Holmes out.....i remember Marciano beating Joe Louis through the ropes.i remember Camacho beating Leonard like he stole something
margarito is a skilled pressure fighter you know there is such a thing
No he is not~
There are skilled pressure fighters, Margarito threw a fuck ton of punches, a skilled guy doesn't waste like that and more to the point doesn't need to waste like that to be effective.

You remember Marciano beating Louis through the ropes or did you just watch the clip? What went on in the early rounds?
I kind of agree with the TS's post. I mean, is it so hard to believe that fighters are going to continually evolve? The future fighters are always going to be more skilled and advanced than the past fighters. There are new training techniques today as well. The standard for the "best" is always going to change. Fighters are going to keep trying to break records. If fighters were sparring 15 rounds back in the days, today we have fighters sparring 5 minute rounds with no break and fresh sparring partners coming in every round. The only thing I see better about the past is that the fighters back then fought everybody and they just seemed more motivated back then.
I always thought of Margarito as crowd pleasing personally, but he wasn't a technically sound boxer and just because he wasn't terrible at a few things doesn't make him "skilled" to me. It is really more a "glass is half full/empty" thing. Slickness and flair are a bit heavily emphasized nowadays when it comes to "skill" but that has more to do with the merging of athletes, celebrity and pop culture. This is like the hall of fame thing, it is all subjective. I would prefer a boxer who is multifaceted and demonstrates ability in many areas over guys who are exceptional at a couple things but downright terrible in other areas. I'm arguing this in my own head as I type, but when I think of Margarito I don't see a well rounded "skilled" boxer.
Margarito was solid technically. His defense was subpar (although in his prime it was much better than he's given credit for) and he was so slow that what was actually excellent boxing skills just looked lethargic.

From what I read and think I saw for awhile if I remember right it was somewhat competitive but Louis gassed and marciano ended it but I may be wrong don't quote me lol
