    here is another perspective...

take two new fighters coming up
they got a match on 2 july

which fighter gets the bigger purse

its the one with the belt or the one that ranks higher in the weight
    division...its usually both....

so why not let Cotto ball out of control like Floyd?

let's face it a lot of Cotto's past opponents have rock solid fan bases
Oscar, Hatton, Cotto, ..... they have countries supporting them

Mayweather is the draw, even though Cotto is a draw in his own right this fight did the numbers it did (they will be huge) because its Floyd Mayweather.

Cotto made his highest ever purse and he will be happy with it

Cotto was willing to sign for the significantly smaller purse albeit it is a lot of money .... and Cotto probably does not care as much as mayweather or pacman about the big purse...i mean the man is happy sharing a bed with his buddy

Pacquiao is used to getting the lion's share
why should he take less than Mayweather

a big reason why this fight happened is Cottos
willingness to take the first deal Mayweather offered

Pac is a bigger star and has a longer winning streak than Cotto ...

we gotta figure this out yall

There is nothing to figure out. Cotto would not had done a 8 million doallar payday with a piece of the PPV with anybody else. TR wanted him to fight Pac in another catchweight and signing one more fight after the Pac fight.

Signing with TR means at the end you get less.

Cotto being a free agent meant that he kept the majority of the money without the massive overhead of TR promotions. Manny gets big amounts of money with all the endorsements deals he has.

Name another fighter that Cotto in one fight would had gotten such a deal without a contractual obigation

Floyd will lose some leverage when its time to renegotiate a pacman fight
How were they to know that Cotto would give him his toughest match beforehand? Cotto obviously doesn't have a problem since he's getting a career high payday and he signed the agreement. It does seem like a wide gap but Cotto probably was just thinking about getting his highest purse ever.

Cotto took $13m from the Pac fight and he is bigger star now.

Lets see what his final take is but if he don't take close to 20 mil then he has been done over.

Cotto should have gotten 30/70 IMO, looks like he might be gettin less than 20% with the deal got.

You probably meant Floyd. But Floyd also fought Mosley and Ortiz who had a very limited fan bases. Those two fighters were comming off big wins on their previous fights.
