If you followed the sport then, you would have known Oscar had been planning on dropping to 147 for a while (due to it being the hottest division in boxing)

He was suppose to rematch Floyd there, but Mayweather retired. Then it was suppose to be the Margarito vs Cotto winner, but when Tony won, Oscar ducked Margarito and tried to cherry pick a LW in Manny Pacquiao. To add further embarrassment he wanted to put Pacquiao at a further disadvantage by requesting it at 150lb (when he was willing to fight a rematch against Floyd and a fight with Cotto at 147). He was then getting blasted for his cherry picking and tried to prove a point by coming in lighter than Manny only to get demolished.

        you're right
Oscar lowballed Floyd, thinking Cotto would beat Tony
        Floyd's bitchass just "retired" altogether
Pac was set to defend his LW belt against Edwin Valero
if Valero couldn't be licensed, Arum had Soto ready to fight Pac at LW
Oscar being a chickenshit changed everything

That turns out to be true. But Oscar had decided to move down in weight at that point. He could have had the Forbes fight at any weight he wanted. I don't remember any serious discussions for DLH to fight Oscar.

Yeah it really doesn't make sense, he basically sacrificed himself to create a superstar out of a guy who fights for a rival promotion company. I mean, where is the reasoning and logic behind that? I still don't understand why Mayweather retired instead of rematching Oscar for another huge payday. It was all just a series of odd events that occurred.

At the time he was planning on fighting the Cotto/Margarito winner (well just Cotto, who was favored to win), but as mentioned, when Margarito won he changed his mind. He was also looking into fighting Sergio Mora for some strange reason. So he just decided to kill himself to make weight and fight the lightweight Pacquiao and proceeded to get lit up till he quit on his stool.

what an unusual thread. Maybe cos DLH thought he would pulverise the small Pacman.

If DLH had of beaten Pac at 147 people would be asking what was Pac thinking to think he could go up 2 divisions.

DLH didn't choose Pacquiao. Merchant and Rafael talked to Arum and Schaefer about it and then Arum asked Roach what he thought about it, Roach gave it the go ahead.

Cherry pick gone wrong. Pac just had 1 fight at 135 and jumped to 147. That was one of the most satisfying win of pac's career. gave fishnets an epic beatdown.

Yeah, he was getting busted up by I think Ortiz and Valero, was even sporting a black eye. I think Freddie Roach looked like a mastermind in all of this. He noted famously that "Oscar couldn't pull the trigger" anymore and knew he'd be a corpse at the weight. Once he saw the IV markings it just confirmed his su****ions and told Manny to destroy him.
